Stories shaped by trauma and abuse are complex.

They often carry layers of shame, contempt, and deep ambivalence. These realities that can be difficult to name, let alone engage. So what do you do when someone entrusts you with a story like this?

In these two live, online sessions, you are invited to witness the art of story engagement firsthand. Rather than simply learning concepts, you’ll observe how real stories are held, how meaning is made in the moment, and how attentive presence can open space for honesty, dignity, and insight.

Join us for two new online sessions in The Art of Story Engagement:

  • Saturday, May 9, 9 AM - 1 PM PT:
Engaging Stories of Shame with Dr. Dan Allender

  • Saturday, June 13, 9 AM - 1 PM PT:
Engaging Stories of Contempt with Rachael Clinton Chen, MDiv

Each session includes a recorded story engagement, where a participant has thoughtfully written and brought forward their story for this work. You will watch how Dan or Rachael listen, where they move, what they name, and then hear them reflect on why they responded the way they did.

This is a rare opportunity not just to learn about story engagement, but to see it unfold in real time.

It is also an invitation to consider your own posture toward stories—how you listen, how you respond, and what it means to become a more attentive and compassionate presence in the lives of others.

Step into your role as a compassionate witness to the stories that shape our lives.
